Abstract:

In the medium-sized chemical Mondochem GmbH in Germany, Director Klierhoff is discussing the impact of REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) the new EU chemicals regulation - with his departmental managers. REACH introduces a new regulatory approach by taking uses of chemicals into account and putting the responsibility on the whole chemical supply chain. The case gives a brief summary of REACH. Mondochem GmbH has to comply with it and to react to it while taking care of costs and competitiveness. First they have to analyse the impact of the new regulation on their suppliers, on their own activities and on their customers. In the next step, they have to plan measures, to get more detailed data and comply efficiently. Director Klierhoff has to decide who will be put in charge for these activities in the organisation. The first meeting results in lot of ideas and concepts. The case task is to bring them into a clear picture and a schedule. The case contains exhibits on the chemical industry.
