Abstract:

A significant development in executive compensation is the increasing use of performance-based bonuses. Our survey of 205 executives from 30 countries investigates executives' perceptions of the causes and consequences of this trend. Significant findings which depart from the frequently espoused theory of executive incentives are discussed.
